Hey there, cheer coaches! Coach Zo here, back with you after an impactful weekend at the Washburn University tryouts. This experience sparked some real talk I need to share with all of you amazing leaders out there. Being a Head Coach: The Unsung Difficulties As head coaches, you shoulder a weight assistant coaches can't comprehend. You face tough decisions, from cuts to competition schedules, and the pressure can be immense. This is where kindness takes a backseat to being truly kind. Leading with Kindness, Not Just Niceness It's tempting to be "nice" to everyone, but that doesn't always serve your team best. The kind thing is to be fair and make tough calls when necessary. Here's an example: Imagine a cheerleader who breaks the rules by not following instructions for tryouts. Being "nice" means letting them slide. But being kind means holding them accountable to set a standard for everyone who puts in the effort. Empower Yourself: You Don't Need to Justify Every Decision Second-guessing yourself is a recipe for disaster. Trust your gut! You're the head coach for a reason. Your vision and your decisions will shape your team's success. Treat Each Athlete as an Individual Every cheerleader brings something unique to the table. Treating everyone exactly the same isn't fair. Recognize their strengths and tailor your approach to get the best out of each athlete. Building a Cheerleading Powerhouse: Resources at Your Fingertips! I know you wear many hats, and sometimes it feels overwhelming. That's why I'm creating a Cheer Coach Bundle packed with essential resources, like: Makeup lists for different budgets Top jumps, drills, and skills Fundraising ideas to skyrocket your team's budget Reliable vendors for uniforms, bows, and more! Let's Make This Happen Together! Is this bundle something your administration would love? Leave a comment below with "need it!" I'll get you the info so you can start building your cheerleading dream team! Remember, coaches, you are vital. You inspire and empower the next generation of cheerleaders. You got this!
